What is Klingon Kommand?

Klingon Kommand has been archiving and indexing information on the play-by-email space war strategy game of VGAP4 ("Planets version 4") since 1999. On this site you will find a wide variety of documents explaining how to approach various aspects of the game, some free tools such as a combat simulator, useful look-up charts and some other interesting things I've come across over the years.

For a long time this was one of the few fan sites which was continuously maintained, so it has accumulated a lot of articles contributed by third parties who weren't sure where else to publish them.

What is VGAP?

VGAP is a multiplayer, play-by-email, turn-based space war strategy game. It appeals mainly to males in the age range of students to 50 years old. It first came to fame in the early 1990's as "VGA Planets version 3", the first widely played internet based space strategy game. It has since evolved into VGAP version 4. One person 'hosts' the game on their PC and up to 30 players send turns in to the host computer. Once all orders are in, the host computer processes the results and sends back results. As the game progresses, players discover more about their galaxy, neighbours and begin fighting, negotiating and dying. Most players are from North America and Europe, and one of the nice aspects of the game is the real-life friendships that spring up between players from different cultures.

One new player summed it up thus: 'It is the only wargame I know of which combines all three major elements of a wargame so comprehensively: tactics and strategy, logistics and economy, and diplomacy."
