Free utilities
- Diplomat combat simulator - use this utility to simulate battles. Other features include: creation of QSP ('Quick Build') ship files; a simple ground assault simulator; a boarding calculator; and the download includes Peter Chambers' map2ps map printing utility, and Gabor Toro's more accurate ground combat spreadsheet (see next item). As you build your ships and wings the program offers tips about the weapons, etc you are fitting. Simulations can be saved and reloaded later.
- Gabor Toro's Ground Assault Simulator. This is an Excel file requiring Excel 2000 to work (it requires Macro functions not available in Excel 97). Tim sent Gabor the latest Host code concerning Ground Combat, and Gabor replicated this in an Excel spreadsheet. It is about 2 years more up to date than the one I coded into Diplomat, and more comprehensive (ie it handles Attack and Run, etc not just CrushKillDestroy mode).
- VGAP4assistant, a utility by Rick Glover. Description here, download here. Several functions, the most fascinating to me is that it allows you to RAPIDLY set up a copy of a game you are in (using exported data from the game, which includes all ships you can scan) and run it in parallel for "what if..." scenarios. Also allows you to set up a "Ragnarok" style final battle at the end of a game, where everyone's ships are teleported to one point for a titanic final battle!
- Population growth calculator, an Excel spreadsheet by Michael Richardson (27kB)
